MEMORY.DIAG V02 RP AUTOMATION INC. 14FEB89
DESCRIPTION
This program allows the checking of memory damage in the user
areas of the VAL-II system. It should be run if a "STORAGE
FORMAT ERROR" results from executing a VAL-II FREE command.
PREPARATION
THIS PROGRAM IS NOT A VAL-II PROGRAM. It does not get loaded
into memory using the VAL-II LOAD command. This program is a
diagnostic program. To load and execute this program, insert
the correct diskette into the floppy disk drive, and type
"DIAG MEMORY.DIAG".
PROGRAM EXECUTION
This program will start to execute automatically once it has
finished loading into memory. Diagnostic programs do this.
The program will check the "boundary tags" in the user areas
of the memory. These boundary tags are the way that VAL-II
keeps track of which memory is available and which memory is
used. The program will either continue until all memory has
been checked and it is all good, or until the first error is
found. In both cases, a message will be displayed to the CRT
screen stating the results.
MESSAGES
Memory OK - Boundary tags match
This message will get displayed if all memory is found to be
correct.
Error: dddddd @ pppppp,aaaaaa
This message will get displayed if an error is found when the
boundary tags are checked.
The data, "dddddd", is the data that should have been at that
address.
The PAR contents, "pppppp", is part of the address.
The logical address, "aaaaaa", is part of the address also.
To calculate the physical address, multiply "pppppp" by ^100,
and then add that result to "aaaaaa". This is the physical
address that the data was incorrect at.
